1959 - Don Robert Roland and his two sons Robert and Jack founded the Aunt Emma's Pancake franchise at 5435 El Cajon Blvd. Roland was born in Ohio, came to San Diego in 1911, worked at the old Monarch Drug Store at Fifth and Broadway, and founded a chain of soda fountains in 1918. After his death in 1969, the restaurant franchises were gradually sold off.
Came here in November on vacation. It is so good. The parking is sparse, but we stayed at the motel 6 across the street and was able to walk to restaurant. The food was so so good.
Decided to walk across the street from the SureStay Hotel. Mainly because the hotel did not offer a hot breakfast. See review on the SureStay. This was a good decision. Omelet was great. With an order of Buckwheat pancakes. The service was great.
OK, I didn't even know hash browns could taste that GOOD! Some Harry Potter magic right there. The waffle was also very good, actually everything was hot and super delicious. The decaf coffee was hot and strong, unlike most places where they forget about us caffeine - free people...
Aunt Emma's is one of the best breakfast places in town. The service was fast and every single person was friendly! Not to mention the food was delicious!...
Worth the visit, breakfast is delicious and so is the coffee. Good value for money.
